The Keen family have been farming at Etherley since the late 1950s, when J.A. Keen first took on the land here on Leith Hill Lane in Ockley. What started as a straightforward family farm is now in its third generation — and still going, still improving, still very much a family affair.
We've been supplying Christmas turkeys and geese to local families for over thirty years. That relationship with the local community is something we're genuinely proud of.
Free-range chicken and duck all year round. Beef, lamb, hogget and mutton seasonally. Apple juice and cider in autumn. Raw honey from our wildflower meadows. And a small, simple campsite.
Everything is sold directly from our on-farm shop — no middle stage, no supermarket. What you buy was raised and prepared on this land.
The values haven't changed: raise good animals, care for the land, sell honestly to people who appreciate the difference.
We don't rush growth. Our animals live and grow at the pace the land supports.
Everything is sold directly from the farm. No agents, no wholesalers.
We've worked a low-intensity system for over twenty years, designed to support wildlife alongside production.
Our orchard grows Surrey varieties. Our honey comes from Surrey wildflowers.
Grants have helped us improve the shop, plant more trees, and invest in proper cider-making equipment.
Thirty-plus years of Christmas orders. Loyal customers who come back season after season.
Over the last two decades we've worked hard to bring the farm's natural environment back to something worth being proud of. Hedges reinstated, new trees along field margins, and the orchard brought back to life with local and traditional varieties.
We're farmers. But we think of ourselves as stewards of this land first.
